Geocell - The Geographical Cell

Geocell is a cellular confinement system made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) with special additives. It is known as a geocell, which consists of plastic strips welded into a honeycomb shape.

This system is called a cellular confinement system because the geocell's engineering confines the fill material and prevents its movement.

This, in turn, retains the soil, with its various names and features, such as combating erosion, reinforcing soil, resisting aging, and UV resistance, without causing environmental pollution.

The soil improvement materials consist of three-dimensional cells.

The geocell is also known as a three-dimensional geogrid. The perforated HDS cellular fill material provides a natural drainage structure that encourages plant growth.

This prevents the fill materials from being washed away by wind and water runoff. Geocells are widely used for soil stabilization, erosion control, tree root protection, flood control, loading platforms, and retaining walls.

They offer quick, economical, and permanent solutions for soil reinforcement (stabilization) in weak soils and erosion control on slopes, coastal protection systems, and channels/dams (hydraulic structures). Geocells can increase the bearing capacity of soil, sand, gravel, and other materials, making the foundation stronger.

Due to their honeycomb structure design, they can effectively disperse pressure so that the soil or sand is not easily crushed, thereby improving foundation stability.

2.2 Preventing Landslides and Collapses
During the construction of mountain roads and railways, landslides and collapses on slopes are likely to occur due to complex terrain. Geocells can improve slope stability and prevent landslides. The honeycomb structure design can effectively fix the soil and prevent soil slippage and loss. Many roads are paved with gravel. These roads are often built on fragile ground, such as expansive clay, swamps, or sand. These materials will disintegrate if the correct technology is not in place, threatening the safety, stability, and longevity of highways. Geocells provide the required rigidity and creep resistance to stabilize soft soils on roads. They prevent clay from shrinking and cracking, sandy soils from dispersing and lateral stress, and all soft soils from reinforcing the subgrade
